Welcome to PeachTherapy. We look forward to serving you and helping to make the transition to therapy as smooth as possible. We understand that the decision to reach out for help is one that requires a good deal of courage. We provide a comfortable and safe environment for you to begin to explore your problems and concerns and to quickly provide feedback regarding the most appropriate treatment approach for you. What to ExpectYou should expect to feel comfortable and understood in therapy. Upon discussing and diagnosing the problem, we will design specific goals for your treatment together. You will receive feedback concerning how we view the issue and what treatment options are available to you. We will regularly assess our progress and restructure our goals when needed. Mutual accountability and honest interchange between therapist and patient is encouraged and can increase the effectiveness of treatment exponentially. Your First Individual SessionIn our first session together, we will discuss your psycho-social history and the issues and concerns for which you are seeking help. By the end of the first session, you can expect feedback confirming that we understand you and your problem and also have an effective treatment approach to help you. Therapy is a partnership and it is important for both parties to establish their responsibility in working together to accomplish the common goal of getting you to the place you want to be. Reviewing goals and evaluating progress remains important throughout the course of therapy. Your First Couples SessionCouples in distress coming to therapy for the first visit can be anxious, angry and overwhelmed. During the first session, each party has the opportunity to express their view of the problem(s) and discuss the ways in which they have previously tried to deal with it. After each person has told their story, a picture begins to take shape regarding how the couple’s trouble is keeping them from connecting to each other in effective, meaningful and mutually satisfying ways. Individual sessions may be scheduled to review personal histories and to determine if and when a person’s past is interfering with their capacity to trust their partner and move toward intimacy. It may take 2 or 3 sessions before a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan can be formulated. Your First EMDR SessionIndividuals with childhood trauma can suffer continuous distressing symptoms and be discouraged from years of unsuccessful strategies and attempts to feel better. Your first EMDR session is designed to evaluate the extent to which the trauma is interfering with your life and to design a plan for timely and effective relief from the anxiety, stress, sadness and other post-traumatic symptoms that haunt and disrupt your healthy functioning. Your EMDR treatment can be incorporated into both Individual and Couples’ therapies as well as serve as an adjunctive therapy if you are currently seeing another therapist. Depending on the trauma or traumas an individual has been exposed to, the initial evaluation will determine the course and length of treatment.
